Most Expensive Colleges for 2008-2009 [CampusGrotto]

Let me put that in numbers I would understand:

If you go to one of those colleges that means you could have:

FOUR Porsche Caymans.

OR you can get yourself an Audi R8 and…

have lots of cash left over for…

Study hard, whatever college you’re in because your kids might just be going to one of those schools.

  1. actually concordia is 1700, mcgill is 2k

  2. re: phil’s comment

lol that’s the least that would have came across my mind but hey it’s true…

  3. Holy moley! I’m in Nova Scotia, Canada and my tuition for 4 years, including traveling to fieldschools, was a little over $15,000. Thats not including accomodation or anything, but wow! Everyone should just move to Canada and all will be well :) Although you do have Obama on your side now…

  4. Union is only a few rankings from CMU, a school I used to go to.

  5. it makes me so sad that 2 of the colleges i’m applying to are on that list. i really should be applying for scholarships…

  6. Good thing I go to one of the cheapest colleges in the country. Tuition and books are 4-7 thousand at most!

  7. i’m pretty surprised by this list…hmms

  8. freaking aye!!!
they should definitely add in the art schools. cuz those are WAY mad expensive too.
i mean art center?! 15,000 per term and then add art supplies (even more $$ for PHOTO) and living + transportation expenses.. omfg i spend 50,000+ for 2 semesters! x_x

  9. wow that makes me feel a little better about Pepperdine. But it’s not too far behind the top 25. but thankfully I am almost out before it gets any higher.

  10. @alissatse
Yes, you have to be from Quebec to get the cheapest price. McGill was a good example since it’s one of the best in the country and I’m going there next year. For me, it would be about $3500/year. For other Canadians, I think it would double. For foreigners, it would probably be more than $10000/year. It’s still cheaper than the US though.

  11. sweet. mine made number 11.
come visit us please :) with all the rain we get, we could use some wongfu happiness

  12. One advantage to living in California:
    UCs are more affordable!

  13. thats just depressing t.t 4 porsches……..

  14. No US college is affordable if you’re an international student. Hahaha. We’ve got a few hundred students from the US over here paying board + tuition + international student fees for college and it’s STILL cheaper than the US.

  15. @kqw: tuition fees are heavily subsidized by the gov’t, as they go by the belief that education should be affordable to everyone. As a result, we also have financial aid programs, which are interest free until the day you leave university.

International students will see about the same prices as above for certain professional programs, as their tuition is approx. double of a domestic student.

  16. @kqw that’s only if you’re living in Quebec… I think if you go McGill and you’re not from Quebec, tuition fees will probably be around $10000… not sure? it depends if you’re going to stay at residence too, and I haven’t really looked up on McGill. But first year at an institution (like U of T, Loo, Queens)sums up to an average of $6000 to 7000 and increases as you get into your more senior years (+ dont forget like other expenses: residence, textbooks) but in general, yes canada’s tuition fee is not as expensive as US

  17. @Marie
OH MY… I’m assuming that’s 3000/year for the rich and poor? Wow, where is the difference coming from? US really needs to follow Canada. I had to pay 3000/semester in loans AFTER all that financial aid at a state school.

  18. woah. thats way too expensive, beyond what i can afford. >.> no wonder scholarships were created. now think about it, thats just one year staying there. if you stay for 4 years, you’re basically broke. :X on the other hand, you get a good education… right? gosh. LOL at phil- sexy and affordable. oh and that R8 looks awesome and the puppies are cute ^^

  19. I love Canada!!!
It costs about $3 000/year for tuition in the province of Quebec. We pay taxes for education, so it’s cheaper…

  20. And that price tag for only one year of college, now imagine 4 years (if you graduate on time), at least $200k. No wonder Americans don’t pay off their students loans until they’re 30.

    Thank goodness for state universities!

  21. wow. i didn’t expect sarah lawrence to be the most expensive one! there was a point in time when i considered taking the sats, moving to the states and pursuing medicine in ucla…i wonder how much that would have cost my parents?

  22. ahahahaha.. Australia doesn’t look so bad now! Local students pay around $18k for a whole degree (3 years).

    Damn…u guys get it bad….

  23. yay, UCSD! I’m a first year right now. :b With the finaid I get, my tuition is nothing compared to those schools’ tuitions. -_- I keep reminding myself that my parents are paying for my education so I can try to kick myself to study and whatnot. Apparently, I’m not studying. And I ditched class today (only because I’m sick). Back to work!

  24. Ohmyjeebus. NYU </3 T-T SO SADDDD. So fortunate USC isn’t up there. Grad school! w00t! And thank goodness for UCs!

  25. i agree with philip! yay ucsd!

  26. tell me about it. the reason I’m going to UK to study because I’ll just need a year to finish my degree, which means I save more to buy my own Porsche. haha! and lots of puppies! whatever that means. haha.. :p

  27. I am so glad I’m Canadian… 7,151.83$ tuition in 2002! :D

  28. I agree with Phil! I hope I get into UCSD next year! (:

  29. oomg ted, how did u know the Audi R8 is my current favorite car haha
& at phil – sexy and affordable? lawlz xD

  30. Good thing all I’m applying to are UCs haha.
    *cough* UCLA is better *cough*

    and cute puppies!!! xD

  31. Wowwww. I didn’t know those colleges down the street in Claremont cost so much!

  32. Did someone say R8?? Hahaha YAY! That’s my wallpaper, but the side/back of it! :D

Well, I guess a positive thing about going to one of those schools is that you don’t have to deal with budget cuts! And even UC schools are lucky… there’s private funding. CSUs have it hard… my school just postponed our Early Registration days to a month later because they are going to drop MORE classes for Spring. =’[

  33. i’m suprised the major ivy leagues aren’t there.. O_o

  34. Yay for UCSD! sexy AND affordable!

  35. i saw this too
my top choice is actually…probably tufts…ahhhhh!
    $$$

  36. Boston University (tuition, room, board, fees) $48,468. i have a scholarship so wheeww.. but im not dorming, cuz it mad expensive :(
that audi is nicee! and lots of cute puppies! hehe
