There’s a lot of places I want to go to. But as I sit here at my desk right now, I have the sudden urge to be back at this one spot, back at this one time not too long ago.
I don’t know why this specific thought came to mind. But it did. I don’t know why it felt like we were sneaking out. But it did. That’s what it felt like. I was with people I had known for a day. And that night, after we decided there was nothing better to do, we went for a walk. It felt like the first day of summer camp with new friends and we were already on our first adventure. We arrived at a vast opening of land. Late at night, with no street lights, you could hardly tell it was a golf course. We walked up slight rolling hills. And there, we just tilted our heads and looked up. Some of us were talking, while others were just counting the stars. It was a clear night and the chill was perfectly refreshing. I just stood there, looking up, and nothing was more satisfying. Honestly, I don’t remember if I had my camera with me. But even a photograph wouldn’t have captured the right feeling.
That’s where I want to be at this moment. Standing under the stars on a spring night just outside Dartmouth University in New Hampshire.

so descriptive…imagine how it would feel if there was a breeze of wind against your face as you await for the stars to fall down upon you…

loveed this post~ and it really reminds me of a place that I went to that is quite similar. And yes, I agree, the feeling of just looking up in the clear dark sky where it’s quiet with a bit of cool fresh air it just lovely. It’s something that you can’t describe but simply have to experience. I hope that one day, I could be at that same spot you talked about though :]

I think sometimes the camera cannot capture the memory you have for that “one spot”. Like a beautiful sunset, or the soft wind blowing on your face, it is to be felt, and captured in that sense.
But rarely, we get the chance to go back again to experience it. But you will always remember that feeling. That’s the beauty of it. It makes up for the absence of your camera.

You’re a true artist. You use such simple words, but together they describe something so beautiful.
I like keep many memories of such stories as you do. As time passes, it’s almost as if they were dreamed up. Sigh… =)

I wish I could see the stars here, near L.A (hate that pollution)… Dartmouth is my priority college, to escape this place.

whoa, that sounds incredible. I know that feeling – a sudden desire to be somewhere peaceful, indescribable, meaningful, and most importantly, memorable
If that was in a short, that short would be very memorable.. a group of people who have just met, relaxing with a cool breeze under the dark starry sky

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
some of the most breathtaking moments are when sky tapestries like those are shown above.
which is also why I hate that street light outside my window, haha.

such vivid descriptions, id love to have experienced that. its true that even a picture cant capture that feeling and memory, just stays in your head for a long time (: reminiscing takes you back to all those carefree times where you didnt have to think about anything huh? well you guys should take a break for a bit and enjoy life, have more of these experiences.

August 19, 2007, ~11 PM EST, I was sitting at the docks in a huge muskoka chair, listening as the water quietly lapped against the shoreline. The sky looked like it had been picked out with thousands of little diamonds. You could see a tiny red dot in the sky, like a little ruby, that was Mars. The milky way was like one, broad, white watercoloured stroke on a deep blue canvas. Then suddenly, one, then two stars would fall from the sky.
Every year I want to go back to cottage country, about two hours north of home. Where there’s nothing but trees and still waters. If I head up in mid-august, I can catch the Perseids meteor shower. That night I made 11 wishes.

that sounds so peaceful

I want to be standing on a empty city street with light snow falling towards the ground. No wind, no sound, no car.. no one except me.
I can’t wait until there’s snow. I just hate the cold though. Well I saw flurries the other day.

Is this true? Or another one of your stories? Sounds beautiful
October 26, 2008 at 7:31 am
It sounds like you need a break from all this hard work. =)
Sometimes the most beautiful places can’t beat a night under the stars. Nature has its own magical ways.
Maybe you’ll be able to do something similar to that, when your on your next tour. =D
