speedread

I am addicted to information, I must have it! The problem is there’s too much information out there and there’s no way I can fully understand everything. I wish we have something like what they had in The Matrix where information can be downloaded instantly into your brain “I know Kung-Fu”. I MUST HAVE IT! I have a growing stack of books that I bought which I haven’t touched.  When I read for leisure I read much slower (because I care) than say when I was in college going through six books trying to write a research paper but time isn’t on my side so I guess I need to pick up the pace. Check out the quick video from howcast on speed reading after the break.

  1. thanks ted for the info! maybe i can finish my book and do my report in less than 2 days lol

  2. Hi Pamela! for some reason it feels like a long time since we’ve seen a comment from you =P. Getting too busy for us? haha. Good to hear from you!

  3. thanks for the info!! hopefully it works for me :)

    Greetings from UF :)

  4. Hmm, Step 3.. is hard. Not sure how to get the words in without saying it? Or.. well. I’m not sure at all ._.

  5. just the right topic! I decided to take a break from reading my never-ending textbook (or just this chapter)and I’m glad I did.
hmmmm…I think I’ll test it. =) this should be really helpful. maybe I can get in like 2 hours of sleep tonight. whoo! and it’s supposed to be chinese new year. ha.

  6. There’s a problem when learning these speed reading techniques. Sometimes, you start reading faster than your brain can process or you think you’re reading fast but you just move your eyes over the words.

As a high school policy debater, we are taught to orally read literally as fast as as most people can speed read in their head(around 500 WPM). This got me into the habit of sounding things out in my head, which I thought would slow down my normal reading. I found sounding out the words in my head actually helped me stay on track and better absorb the information.

  7. haha, Ted, the picture at the top made me laugh so much.

I once saw this crazy article that gave many of the same tips, but it also suggested reading two columns of a newspaper simultaneously! Don’t really think that works, but that would be pretty efficient. hahah I enjoyed the post. XD

  8. I always love your informative blogs, Ted. :)
If only I knew this a while ago. I had a midterm today but I didn’t read the book at all. I think it was due to the fact that it was an open book exam. Te index is your best friend!! I think I aced it. But yes, I will definitely apply this to my other studies. THANKS!!

  9. Thanks Ted! xD

  10. i will try this out.. maybe i’ll catch up on all my hmwk readings tonight.. good stuff.. thanks ted!

  11. Thanks Ted – you might have just saved me over an hour a day with all my textbooks … time is money!

  12. Wow 12,000 words/minute…that’s practically like Matrix!!
