On January 20th, the Wong Fu house woke up a little earlier than we usually do, turned on the TV and cheered with the millions that were in Washington D.C. I’ve never watched an entire presidential inauguration ceremony until today, in the past I’ve only watched news clips. This inauguration makes Oscar and Golden Globe ceremonies look like an award show for special ed. kids.  More after the Jump, including the full inauguration video.

Some interesting stuff:

CNN had a Satellite image of the inauguration (Click on the Image for an interactive view)

What about Security?

“The U.S. Secret Service is overseeing a security force of more than 40,000 people, including 7,500 active duty soldiers, 10,000 National Guard troops and 25,000 law-enforcement officers…Thousands of extra police, military troops and law enforcement agents, including plainclothes officers roaming among the crowds”  – Fox news article

The FBI brought out all their toys too, below is a “bomb containment vessel, which will transport, and if necessary detonate, explosives safely.”  Check out newscientist for more cool tech.

At the end of the inauguration ceremony Rev. Joseph Lowery ended the benediction with one of my favorite line from the inauguration ceremony he said “…help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around when yellow will be mellow when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right.”

Wondering what happened in 2005.  Here’s a edited clip on youtube

  1. I saw that inaguration. It was the first time I’ve ever watched one. I found it sucky that on Bush’s oath they did like three words and then he repeats. On Obama’s they did hella freaking long lines. Which why he messed up. But I found it funny that barely anyone was there for bush’s inaguration XD.

  2. Now I finally believe that we have a black president.

I can’t believe you guys waited 3 hours to vote. It took me 5 minutes. =P Lucky me.

  3. i watched it in a couple of my classes. real interesting. we laughed at the end of the reverend’s speech about the colors and stuff.

  4. The only parts I particularly paid attention to was when the reverend said let yellow be mellow and when Obama messed up a little bit because it showed us that he is human

  5. Ayeeeee. I’m so happy. I was so mad that I wasn’t able to watch the inauguration live because my teacher’s internet was bogged down by all the views at the same time. :[

    Gooood speech too. Me gusta.

  6. lol it was the first time i watched the entire inauguration ceremony, too!
obama sure has a LOT to clean up after what’s happened in the past 8 years..

  7. omg i love obama! :)
and i couldn’t stop watching the inauguration all day…which probably wasn’t the best idea because i have midterms all this week….man.

  8. wooo! obama. (:
i watched this in school. it was pretty awesome and i really hope that obama will come through for america.

  9. We also watch the beginning of the inauguration at school. We watched it on a SmartBoard it was such a big thing too ! Can’t believe we were there witnessing history as a class! But sadly we didn’t get the time to watch the speech (which we have a essay on) But it was still very , in fact fun! We were a little immature … we would clap whenever the crowd there in Washington would clap we would cheer just for no reason . But it was good to be part of it . Witnessed USA’s new hope.
And the thing is that . We’re in the center of the universe Toronto ^_^

  10. i love you for posting this up!

i wanted to watch it so badly but was stuck at home studying for an exam that i am extremely ill-prepared for. =(

congrats, america! i hope you’ll have realistic expectations for your new president and i hope he manages to not only mop up the mess the bush administration left for him, but also restore america as the symbol of what “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” really is.

  11. it was awesome today they featured my school(Whitney Young, Micehlle Obama’s alma mater) a ton on news stations and everything during the inauguration.
