Nowadays, it seems like everyone has a DSLR camera.  It’s almost become a trend, as much as thick black framed glasses are associated with being “artsy.”  Just an observation.  But anyway, a lot of people have asked us about our photography.  What we shoot with, how we shoot, tips, tricks, etc.  Well, I’m going to answer all those questions right here, right now.  Okay, I’m not claiming I know all the answers, but yea I know the secret to taking amazing photographs.  Shhh don’t tell anyone =X

JUST USE YO’ BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Balance with your booty!

Achieve maximum angles!

You gotta get uncomfy for some shots. No shame guys. No shame.

Remember to always extend your stabilizers!

Get low, low, loww, loowww, looooowwwww!

Take a seat on the Invisible Chair!

Put your back into it…?

Oh..and if you were still wondering. I shoot with a Canon 40D and 24-70mm F/2.8L lens.  Yup.  Remember to follow my tips and happy shooting!

  1. LOL… sarcasm much? Yes. Definitely. (Although these tips do seem authentic…)

  2. AWESOMEEEE HAHAHHAA.

  3. i think wes should put up pictures of embarrassing pictures of himself taking pictures.

and i hope getting a DSLR is not a cliche now.

  4. hmm..analogue photo cameras ftw :D

  5. lol hahaa

  6. anything for the perfect shot! no shame. =P

  7. PUAHAHAHA even if i’ve seen these pictures a million times, i still laugh. I need to take a picture of my dad and his dSLR and some of his REALLLLLLY odd poses now

  8. Ted, are you sporting a Domke bag? :D

  9. hehe thanks for the tip. interesting that everyone in those photos is asian xD
one of the first things my photo teacher told us was that we would have to get into some really uncomfortable positions to get amazing shots. I don’t have a DSLR yet….:( but I’m hoping I can get a job soon so I can buy a DSLR or film SLR myself!

  10. i like your eyeballs wes, ted!
    lets trade! kidding.
i can’t wait to show you guys my giant paper crane photos :)

    love the techniques. haha

  11. The four picture is my favorite. I do something that looks like that, the sideway lunge because I’m reluctant to use the zoom feature on the camera.

  12. Nice.

We use all of those techniques over here at Shinobi Studios.

    lame plug: http://www.shinobi-studios.com

  13. I remember that one video. That pose did come out with a nice picture :D yay squirrel!

    This post was so serious.

  14. Puahaa, this post MADE MY DAY. Totally was not expecting those pics (:

  15. HAHAHAHAH

is it really necessary to stick my butt out & spread my legs & get real low to take a good shot?

    the pictures were hilarious:D

    & i agree with philip… i thought it was gon be a serious/instructive post…

  16. dang ted, you don’t need to use the booty. you have the fold!

  17. ^ oh woww….interesting photo taking pose, ted. All worth it though. Cute squirrel. Reminds me of the squirrel that almost followed me into my class today.

  18. Great tips! I just want to share some of my personal photography tips too!

As seen in the Youtube video here

Where are my nuts! Do you have my nuts? aww nuts

  19. I thought this was serious as well, hahh. :3
Well, I guess I’ll take this opportunity to ask anyways, when you had a Canon Rebel, what lens did you shoot with? I’m trying to decide whether I want to dish out some moneys for a 50mm lens, because the 18-55mm kit lens is….unsatisfactory, haha. :3

  20. ahahaha niice xDD

  21. ahahaha I too thought it would be a serious post..until I saw the first picture. LOL ;p

  22. HAHAHA nice wes, nicee XD
I was going to ask about your camera too, but now i don’t need to anymore.. but yeah, i agree with everyone having a dslr these days, along with those thick black framed glasses. dslr cameras are really nice though.. and expensive. :/
i love your photography, btw. :D and ted’s too. phil doesn’t have a flickr of some sort to show his photography, so i dunno lol

  23. awesome…..haha funny pictures
i love photography, but i think i suck

    with your technique ^^

  24. ahh the asian picture-taking front stance

that’s how we refer to it in tkd

  25. Jordyce don’t worry your not the only one who doesn’t have one. Thanks wes this information was helpful. Although I don’t have an SLR, I’ll trying using those tips with the fujifilm finepix z20 that i have. I doubt it’ll come out the same. But its worth a try. Hahaha Phil I’d love to see your photos, but ur facebook, and myspace are…. private…. -_-’

  26. hahaha…i thought this was a legit post when i read the title lol

  27. I agree with Phil.. I thought this was gonna be a serious post knowing that it was Wes posting it..
now I know Wes has this really funny side to him too.. >.<

  28. I lol’d.

  29. This blog made me sad, I’m interested in photography and can’t even afford any digital camera… and apparently everyone else has a DSLR camera… awwww…

  30. I’ve tried all those poses…& still taking mediocre photos. Maybe I need more back in “it”? and to think I almost thought this was gonna be a serious post.
