Bulls Celtics BasketballWe’re in Chicago again! Third time in three years! Not bad huh? It’s the last stop of our tour and I’m glad we get to end it here in this wonderful city at the University of Chicago. I’m also glad…because the NBA playoffs have begun.
Bulls Celtics BasketballAs you may remember, I am an NBA fan, and the playoffs are always a highlight of the Spring. Not sure how many of you follow as well, but two nights ago the Chicago Bulls won a major upset against the Boston Celtics in overtime. Tonight they faced off again. As we were getting on the plane, I saw the game was starting on a nearby tv and was disappointed that I’d be missing it. However, when we landed, right outside the gate doors, all the TVs were playing the game and it hit me…duh, we’re in Chicago. (yeah i’m slow) We landed just in time, 12 seconds left in the game, tied. I stood there with a crowd of others, all looking up at the screen, quite tense, as Boston made the final play. Ray Allen hit the game winning 3 pointer…everyone around me was shocked, but it couldn’t be denied, that was a monstrous shot. I like how sports can bring people together…well, if you’re rooting for the same team that is, otherwise, it…tears them apart…and, yeah nm I take that back. Sports turn ppl crazy sometimes.

I felt bad for Noah (not related to the ark) who was guarding Allen. He did his best to defend but they still lost. I remember that feeling from back in college playing in IM leagues. I played some big games, nail biting finishes, and being on the losing side never felt good. Any of you guys know that sinking feeling?

Well, the series isn’t over, and there’s still 1 month of playoffs left. I’ll be watching closely. For now, Chicago, I feel for you.

In a relatively unrelated but still sortakinda note… Check out this video. It’s unrelated because it’s about a modern day “samuari” and not a basketball star. It’s related because he’s got fracking-WTF-are-you-serious?!-skillz with the sword, like Ray Allen has with the bball. From geekologie.

 highlights of the video..

1:45: Cuts the corner off a mushroom cap.
3:30: Cuts a beansprout lengthwise, horizontally.
5:15: Cuts a 6mm Airsoft BB shot at him in half.

Psh, gimme one clean shot at him w/ my NERF gun!!

  1. *sigh* poor bulls . . . losing in the 7th game. it was a really exciting series. no doubt. but just outta curiosity, what team are you rooting for this year?

  2. OMG! That samuri thing is so best! haha i can just imagine a little kid watching this and telling their parents “daddy when i grow up i want to be a samuri!”

  3. Thanks for coming to UChicago guys! A while ago I posted on your blog that you guys should come, and then I told my friend Jarratt that he should invite you guys, because I really love what you’re doing out there for the Asian American community. And it happened. Yay! Sadly, I didn’t get to meet you guys afterward because I’m an RA and it was my study break night, so I had to finish making marble ice cream cake for 80 people, fun times haha. :( I hope you enjoy Chicago, and continue to do the great job that you do!

  4. chyea! go celtics! hehe

  5. I saw some of that game. I was working I only got to see some of it. I can’t tell by your comment but who were you cheering for phil?

That video of the japanese samurai was pretty cool. I was amazed about the airsoft bullet. That was so cool.

  7. You guys should stick around UChicago for another day! It’s the beginning of midterm period and a ton of people (like me) missed your event tonight because of midterms tomorrow. =(

  8. Man middle school. 8 seconds left, our take out from the other end of the court… I ran up with it for a lay up , missed, we lost. Laid on the ground for 5 extra minutes. I thought they’d give me the foul, but I think the refs just wanted to go home… haters. Oh well…

Who is Phillip Wang rooting for in the NBA playoffs? That’d be quite interesting to know… wait let me guess… your LA Lakers ? haha

  9. lol your choice of pictures made me laugh. oh and that video is ridiculous!! sooo cool.

  10. Man, I watched that game while I was studying. It was ridiculous! Strings of clutch plays after clutch plays; what a heartbreaking loss for the Bulls and Especially Ben “Michael” Gordon ;) . At least now they have a chance to go up 3-1.

  11. Too bad you missed the few minutes before Allen’s shot. Ben Gordon went nuts. I’m sure the chicago airport was crazy. I would love to hear your thoughts on the Warriors this season. It wasn’t pretty but lots potential.

  12. I emailed you guys about this yesterday, but if you are a fan of basketball, you should check out this video of crazy shots that people made:
