Congrats Fobby Parents, you have your own book! – Phil

051909fobA few months ago I met up with the wonderful young ladies who created the blog “MyMomIsAFob“. If you haven’t heard of it, you gotta check it out, it’s hilariously cute. (MyDadIsAFob is equally if not more cute). I recently heard from them some TREMENDOUS news. They got a book deal! The publishing company Penguin (HUGE) picked up their idea and is going to make a book out of the blog’s entries and pictures. Congrats to the girls for working so hard and accomplishing this. Now it’s up to us to help them by continuing to submit our own fobby mom and dad stories and pictures to them. For the next several months, they’ll be compiling all the best submissions. If yours is good, you might make the book!! I’m gonna do my part, here are a few “fobby” slips from my dad.

This past April:
My dad and I wait for my mom at the DMV. We’re discussing my car insurance.
Dad: Who are you with right now?
Me: State Farm.
Dad: Have you heard of…um, Psycho? I heard they’re cheap.
Me: (pause) It’s Geico.

Last Christmas on our way home from Costco. We’re talking about music artists Wong Fu is working with:
Dad: I’ve been hearing a lot about Kimberly Justine. Is she that good?
Me: (pause) Justin Timberlake?
Dad: Oh, right.

and finally…
My dad was really excited about his subscription to this new DVD rent-by-mail service called FlexNed.
…riiight.

Ok, that’s enough bashing on my dad. The truth is, he’s a very smart and fun guy when he chooses to be (just struggles w/ American names, hehe). I don’t have many about my mom because her english is actually really good. Just recently she sent me an email and in it she talked about using Vimeo. wow mom, props. I love my parents. We tease their tendencies and their grammar, but really…how would you do if today you decided to move to another country, leaving behind your whole family, friends, and way of life…and had to learn the new language, how to buy a home, do taxes, find a job, raise a family, etc in that new country?  Yeah…I would never have the courage, and I’d be messing up a WHOLE lot more words. Thanks ma, ba. I won’t say a thing, you can keep calling it FlexNed. =) More on my thoughts about my parents here.

Is your mom a fob? Is your dad a fob? Then submit your own stories to the site! It’s our twisted way of showing we care!
