This is a bit late, but I wanted to share that the UC Davis Asian American Association Film Festival is at it’s final week. If anyone is in the area, it’s definitely an event to check out. We were part of the festival when we first visited Davis with our feature, “A Moment with You.” The folks at AAA put a lot of time and work to organize films and speakers. Best of all, it’s FREE! There’s 3 days left for the festival, so check it out if you can! Keep reading for more info.

“The Asian American Association Film Festival is a two week, FREE event, which is going to be held from May 5th – May 15th, 2009 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 8PM in Chem 194. The event is open to students and members of the general public. Our festival’s mission is to create awareness about the diversity of the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) experience and to counteract the stereotypes that mainstream media makes about Asians and Asian Americans by showing independent films made by Asians and Asian Americans. The AAA Film Festival is one of the few events on campus, besides Asian Pacific Culture Week, that devotes so many days (6) to showcasing API talent and creativity from our UCD campus and from around the world. This year, we are bringing two guest speakers – director, Amyn Kaderali, and actor/producer/writer, Jimmy Tsai – and collaborating with South East Asian Graduation committee and Asian Pacific Islander Queers to help them raise money for their respective events on our closing night. We really tried to branch out in terms of representation of the minorities within the API community this year through the films we chose. We are going to show films representing the Hmong, Malaysian, Singaporean, Mongolian, Vietnamese, and LGBT communities and have various clubs from each community come table during our event.”
