Wong Fu does the Epik Movement – Wes

Last week, we got the chance to see, hear, and experience the FM X EPIK HIGH Concert. It was explosive to say the least. Of course any performance by FM is gonna tear the roof down but with the combined crowd of Epik High fans, it was insane. Let me try to describe the night…

Saturday night drive to The House of Blues for the concert. I’ve never been there, but it’s pretty cool. It has like a Southern shack-ish sorta feel. After some tricky navigating through traffic and backroads, we got to HOB and there was a very long line around the block. I was pretty sure we were at the right spot because the line was full of young Asian American hipsters. We bypassed the line and got our passes and headed up to the dressing rooms to meet up with FM.

So this House of Blues is a pretty big deal. I mean, I knew that already but then you get to the dressing rooms upstairs and you see portraits of all the people that have performed there. And then there was Wong Fu. Someone out there really likes this recurring joke of placing the Wong Fu guys in places they don’t belong. Har har har. Anyway, we got to chat with FM, Jon and Ray from Stereotypes right before the show started and they told they were gonna bring us on stage too. Suddenly, I had flashbacks of ISA SF, when we were on stage at the Palace of Fine Arts. Sigh. Thankfully, I was prepared this time. I decided I would hide behind my camera when I got on stage. Phil was responsible for throwing out a free pair of shoes. And FM rocked the stage.

When we were waiting backstage to come out, you could just feel the whole places shaking with energy. It was really exciting. Big thanks to FM for letting us walk around aimlessly with them on stage. FM’s set was really awesome too. Those guys always take it to the next level. This time they went with a time travel theme fully equipped with costumes and story. Very cool.

Later on in the night, Epik High came on and things got intense. I started listening to them like 2 years ago. And yes, I’m not Korean and I don’t understand it. But it was still a fun experience to actually see them live. I didn’t think that’d happen…ever. Let alone be “part of” the same show. The crowd knew every song and glowsticked throughout the night too. The places was packed and it felt like everyone knew everyone. We actually bumped into our friends at PopSeoul too!

After the show, we were caught a late dinner at KT Cafe and we were able to chill with the Norcal FM Street Team. Those girls are seriously the best. They went to the Epik High x FM show in SF the night before and some even went on to their Seattle show! Because of ISA, we’re so lucky to call those girls our fam as well!
