Hi everyone! Question. Do you like lions? Do you like dance? Do you like when lions dance? Well then. I’ve got just the thing for you. If you’re in California, there’s going to be a lion dance exhibition on November 7th, 2009.
You may ask: why is Wesley talking about lion dancing. For a few reasons actually. Do I do lion dance? No. I wish. But my cousin does. And he is awesome. He’s been helping to coach a team for years and now, with some friends, he’s put together a great event to showcase this Chinese tradition. There will be teams from all over performing some amazing acts and stunts. The show is called “Beyond the Pride” Check out the trailer we made for it!
The Show will be at UC Irvine’s Bren Events Center on Saturday November 7th!

awesome. wish i can make it but already have previous plans.
Great promo vid. Love the Lion Dance. I used to do this when i was younger, it was such a great experience. I’ve done everything from playing the cymbals to being the head of the dragon. its so fun, but a lot of work. Miss those days. ahaha

Lion dancing is awesome. I grew up playing with the heads but never learned how to actually use it properly. My great uncle taught lion dancing and martial arts in LA Chinatown for a good number of years. I’m pretty sure his wife and son is teaching it now in Alhambra…

I always thought it was a ‘Dragon’ dance. Huh. Must be the differing cultures.
Still looks awesome, though.

A Dragon Dance is different than a Lion Dance (they often accompany each other). Certain countries may have special words for them but in the US, this is Lion Dance and here’s a picture of a Dragon Dance

Nice trailer about the lion dance. The background sound in it fits so well with the topic. If I live in CA I would probably have went to check it out.
