Apparently there’s a right way to say 2010, I like most people have been saying two thousand ten.  There’s a website made specifically to help the world correct this bad habit of ours.  The correct way is to say Twenty Ten.

“Say the year “1810″ out loud. Now say the year “1999″ out loud. See a pattern? It’s been easier, faster, and shorter to say years this way for every decade (except for the one that just ended) instead of saying the number the long way. However, many people are carrying the way they said years from last decade over to this decade as a bad habit. If we don’t fix this now, we’ll be stuck saying years the long way for the next 99 years. Don’t let that happen!” -www.twentynot2000.com

  1. There is no such number as “twenty ten.” There is a “two-thousand ten.” Example: If you had $2,010 in your checking account, you would say, “I have two-thousand ten dollars.” You would not say, “I have twenty ten dollars.” The correct way to say the year is: Two-thousand ten.

    • Do you pronounce 1999 as nineteen-hundred and ninety-nine?

      Awesome.

    • dude.. he’s just referring to how we READ the YEARS
      read carefully
      goodness..
he’s just sharing an easier way of reading the years out
if you wanna go around saying year two-thousand-and-ten, go ahead! nobody’s stopping you NOR are they saying you’re wrong
do you seriously have to act/sound smart in places like this?
read carefully next time before making a fool out of your self
      jeez

  2. Are you guys going to tour this year?
Please come back to University of Toronto Scarborough! :)

    xoxo

  3. im almost sort of against it…somewhat fighting this. lol. and i really thought we were all gonna start saying two thousand and ten! lol….but it makes me laugh..everyone else says it.. happy twenty ten!!!! lol.

  4. Yup. Vancouver-ites have had it right all along =)
    Happy New Year WFP!

  5. thanks…i would’ve said it the wrong way :)

  6. I’m from Vancouver. So yes, we do have it ingraved in our brains.
Helps if you’re graduating from the same year too. xD

  7. Lol…but it would sound weird if you say it in Chinese. Yee Sup Sup. haha

  8. lol almost feels weird saying Twenty Ten lol

I never paid attention to this before lol intresting

  9. Good thing the Olympic organizers got this right. It’s been “Vancouver twenty ten” this and “twenty ten Winter games” that for the past while now. Most Vancouverites hopefully have this ingrained in their brains.

Thanks Ted for bringing this to our attention! Technicalities FTW!

More food for thought – it’s “anyway” and not “anyways”. :)

  10. I’m still stuck on saying two thousand and ten, it sounds so much nicer.

  11. Happy New Year (a half hour late) from Wisconsin! :]

  12. happy new year 2010

  13. Thanks for this! Now I just have to embed it in my mind. :)

  14. Hey! Even Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas is saying it wrong! She’s so Three Thousand and Eight!

  15. Thank you Ted for enlightening me with such great knowledge. I guess I’m with everyone else and saying it wrong. Hope you guys have a great new year!!!

  16. ._. i’ve been saying it wrong for the past week D:

  17. Yeah I’ve been saying 2010 out of laziness. Evidently it was the right way to go about things. Exciting. :)

  18. my first reaction as “well… duh” but then I can see how people can make that mistake. I guess I am just too dumb think about it. lol

  19. Still 3 hours to go before it’s “twenty-ten” in Copenhagen :)
    but nevertheless, happy new year..

  20. whoa. my mind is sorta blown. I feel so ignorant, =P. thx

  21. Ted…
