In case you’re not following, me, Wong Fu Productions, or ISA on twitter or facebook (wow, you really don’t care us huh?? jk) and still use the website as your main source of WF updates…or you just missed it… Check out my new show on ISAtv! STEP BY STEP! (no affiliation with the 90s family sitcom)

We’re so glad to be expanding ISA by creating original content through ISAtv and this is just the start. We were all asked if we wanted a show and of course we were in! (Yup, even Wes and Ted have their own shows coming)

So why a dance show? Well, hip hop dance used to be my life. In college at UCSD I was coordinator of a team called Ascension. I was consumed basically 3 days a week (at least!) with dance. We did shows and competitions around souther California. I even posted some earlyyy youtube videos of our routines (old school fans know!). But, after graduating, it all came to a complete halt as Wong Fu Productions took over my priorities. I tried to take classes just for fun when I could, and help out my team, but over time, dance was totally out of my life and the only contact I had was watching my super talented friends on YouTube or ABDC as they continued their passion. When it came time to discuss what show we would all have for ISA TV, I knew this was finally my chance to dance again, and dance with some of the best! I’m so honored to work with these choreographers and excited to be on the floor once more, even if it is just once a month; I’ll take what I can get! Hope you enjoy the show so I can keep shooting more episodes! And go easy on me, I’m rusty! It’s been years! haha

Thought I’d dig up some old photos from my vault to give you a peek at what I was doing before this whole WF thang became what it is. These were the “costumes” from Ascension’s year end routines from each year. Oh young-Phil, look what you’ve gotten yourself into. haha

And since so many comments are asking for uploads of old videos.. LOOK! one has already been here this whole time! Hidden in 2006, lol. See if you can spot me, good luck.

sigh, good times. No, Great times. The dance “scene” has changed a lot since then, due to shows like ABDC and SYTYCD, and I often felt like I’ve fallen to far behind. So glad I can pretend like I know what’s still hip with Step By Step! Thanks!

OUTTAKES coming soon.

FUN FACTS:

This is now Manny’s 9th video with us! Can you name the others??

Ally and Manny have acted before. She played the girl who ruined his legal case in “Recess Court”!

Not-so-fun-fact: Middle of the shoot our sound recorder started to malfunction. We brought in a back up, and that one ALSO broke. Thankfully the guys at JKFilms came to help in a bind and we were able to use theirs. Otherwise we would’ve had no sound!

It was a very hot day shooting, Justin had a very physically tough task of staying under the blanket for those long takes!

On April 1 (April Fool’s Day) We played a joke that the car got stolen so we couldn’t shoot any more episodes. This lead a lot of viewers to think that we really had to cancel the series! Sorry for joke! haha

Two After Noon is not about missed opportunities. It is not about unrequited love or losing out. Two After Noon is about first impressions. It is about two people that spend two hours together at…

Two After Noon is not about missed opportunities. It is not about unrequited love or losing out. Two After Noon is about first impressions. It is about two people that spend two hours together at two o’clock. What could happen? Realistically, what could happen? It seems like there are too many misleading movies and stories out there now. Of course they’re fun to watch, but they are so disconnected from truth and reality. How often do strangers “fall in love” so quickly and carelessly? Is the act of falling in love a necessary ingredient for romantic stories to be entertaining and engaging? I don’t believe it is.

Two After Noon revolves around the idea that two people can be thrown together, be attracted to one another, and connect on a meaningful level– but still not end up together. That may sound like a tragic notion at first, but that’s only if you interpret it as an ending. A common theme that fascinates me is that there are no real beginnings and endings; instead, everything is continuous and ongoing. There are so many things in our lives that are indefinite. Finding love and companionship certainly fit into that category. Sometimes you meet someone that seems, for a lack of better words, perfect. But then, for one reason or another, you don’t get to see that relationship all the way through. Instead, what that relationship could have been, is totally left in the dark. All you can hold onto is the indescribable feeling while it existed. But just because the relationship did not develop into something more, does that make it any less meaningful?

I can speak from personal experience that certain things have a way of coming around. Especially the things that you put away in your mind because you’ve attached an ending to them. I’m not saying to always dwell on misfortunes, but rather, to adapt to circumstances with a hopeful outlook.

As for Arthur and Erin, their story together may very well continue in the future but all we see is the two hour window of time they spent. Their impromptu date was a shared divergence from their plans but a glimpse of potential as well. When Arthur finally receives the phone call from his blind date, he’s thrown back on track while Erin is left by herself, again. Erin, while disappointed, is not too discouraged. It’s simply not in her nature. If there’s an “end message” to the short, then it’s to adopt the same positive, hopeful outlook that Erin keeps.

If you liked this short, you might also enjoy our “One Days: HK” series. The One Days is a collection of shorts inspired by the different people and places of Hong Kong. I guess you could say “Two After Noon” is our first attempt at creating an American version of The One Days. Enjoy!

It’s been absurdly busy the past few weeks as multiple projects are coming together, or beginning, on top of traveling for tour. There’s so much for us to share, but we haven’t had the time. Here’s a quick sneak peek at some videos coming your way very soon!

While we were in Texas for tour we were invited to the Funimation headquarters where we were immersed in our favorite anime series and made a really fun and special WFWeekends.

Definitely our most macho WFWeekends yet.

And after coming back from the road we went right into production for our mini series “Company Car”. So far we’ve released only the first episode, but here’s a look at what’s to come next!

There’s your sneak peak to feed your curiosity!

Listening to the radio recently, I had an observation that I’m sure many of you shared… what happened to all the slow songs, specifically, the slow LOVE songs? Without sounding too much like that guy who says “music was better in MY day”, have you noticed that slow songs on pop radio don’t really exist anymore? And if they are slow, they’re usually sad, but there are no current, popular, slow, love songs anymore, and this made me wonder… what do teenagers in high school slow dance to nowadays? Because, when I was in school, the songs we slow danced to were by current artists and on the radio. But then another thought crossed my mind… do teenagers even slow dance at all anymore, since there’s no music for them?

Since I’ve been out of school for awhile, and don’t have any close friends still in high school, I did some “research” by going onto my FaceBook page and just asking you guys randomly… Here’s just a few of the responses I got…

Just as I had suspected! Either no more slow songs at dances, or they play old ones (from when I was in school, haha)

Growing up as shy awkward teenager, one of the biggest, most nerve-wracking, yet potentially thrilling moments of my adolescence was the slow dance. The sweaty palms and butterflies, trying to find the right timing or wording, waiting for the fast music to fade out, or worst yet, the song coming on while your date or girl was off somewhere you couldn’t find her!! haha. School dances are arguably the biggest events of adolescent years…but without slow dancing in there, I feel like they’re really missing out on something special, something magical and meaningful.

“Take It Slow” is about two teenagers who may have missed out on this magical moment at their first dance together, because popular music didn’t allow for it, but taking matters into their own hands. I hope that despite the DJ not playing any slow songs nowadays (because there are none), that people will still find a way to have this special and sweet moment together, because there are really few things like the innocent romantic emotions that come from slowly swaying with a person you really care about to a good, sweet song.

On a personal level… I miss slow dancing. As we grow up, it’s one of those things that don’t happen much anymore. Now, people just wanna bump and grind. I mean, that’s fine and all… but the good stuff, the deep stuff, is in the slow dance. But maybe, that’s what makes it more special, now that we’re older, because we don’t get to do it as often.

And since slow dancing is so rare I strongly encourage those who are in a relationship, or soon to be…to take advantage of that dance partner. Don’t waste the opportunity you have everyday, to simply play a slow song, in your room, from your car, wherever…and just dance with them. It’s easy, too! All you gotta do is just sway, so no excuses like “I can’t dance”. Just get close, close your eyes, and move. Please, slow dance whenever you can, don’t take it for granted… because there are fewer and fewer opportunities to (if at all) as time goes on.
